Wellington 2nd XI 206-5 Trull 2nd XI 207-8
This was an agonising home Somerset League Divison Five loss for Wellington 2nd XI on Saturday to Trull 2nd XI who go third at this early juncture as a result of an eighth wicket stand of 35 between Palmer who batted very well for his 53no and Farthing who hit a nuggety 18no saw that the side could not make it back to back wins.
Macaulay Campbell led the side once more and was asked to bat on the visitors winning the toss and this saw Trevor Brooks play a tremendous innings that had scaled the heights of 77 when he was forced to retire injured with a muscle strain.
With Nathan Roberts he added 61 opening wicket runs and this put Wellington’s second string on course for full batting points.
Thom Trott with 42, Kevin Symons with 10, Darren Davis with 16 and Ben Wardell with a fine 19no saw that Wellington scored well enough to have 206-5 on the board at tea.
Trull batted solidly with England making 27 and Crowe 32 as they too opened with a 61 run stand, but Wellington chipped away to see that Trull were 172-8 with Nathan Roberts taking 2-42 in eight overs and Darren Davis letting just 40 runs go in his nine overs.
Thom Trott was the outstanding Wellington player in the field as he took three catches and returned figures of 4-40 in 8.3 overs, but Palmer and Farthing got their side within striking distance of the required total and as hard as Wellington tried they just could not remove the last Trull batters and so had to endure a two wicket defeat with 2.3 overs going unused.
Wellington collected 18 points from this game with Trull taking 30 and this leaves Wellington in sixth place after one month of play.
