Taunton Deane A 143-7 Wellington 144-2

Wellington set the 2019 Baker Cup alight in the grand manner when they saw off holders Taunton Deane A by eight wickets with 23 balls to spare last Monday evening in this First Round match at the Convent Field.

At 130-3 with each of Thomas (16), Sharland (44) and Harlow (40) in good form with the bat the Cup holders who play their league cricket in WEPL’s Premier Two Bristol and Somerset Division were in with a good chance of posting over 160 it was felt, but three wickets for Luke Desave and four for Sam Whitefield pulled things back in Wellington’s favour to see that the Red and Blacks would need 144 to win…

A pulsating innings then ensued as Ben Evett and Sam Whitefield got 15 on the board in two overs to give Wellington a good start, but the powerful play of Jack Beal who creamed 59 with five sixes gave Wellington a great chance to prosper.

Whitefield continued to 45no and with skipper Arron Campbell making a cool 17no Wellington won with wickets and time to spare in what was a famous result.

Wellington host fellow WEPL Somerset Division side North Petherton in the Quarter Finals on Monday 3rd June.
