Wellington U15 105 – 7 Street U15 50 all out

Wellington’s senior youth team have hit the ground running and were 55 runs too good for Street in this County Cup First Round game played at a sunny playing field on Sunday morning.

The visitors had no hesitation in inserting Wellington on winning the toss and this looked a good decision as Callum Hendy (0), Alex Derbidge (1), Max Brodie (4) and skipper Tom Shannon (1) were quickly returned to the pavilion.

This left Jacob Hurry and Olly Hunt at the crease looking to rebuild, but once Hurry was out for 15 this left the hosts reeling at 39 for 5 and in danger of not batting out the overs.

Callum Kinnear was next in, stepping up from the U13, added stability and impetus and in partnership with Hunt took the score into the 80s before Hunt fell for 20 and when Kinnear finally perished for a smart 24 Josh Cashmore and Tom Hopkins saw the innings through to finish on 105 for 7 at the interval.

Joel Sargeant was the pick of the Street attack finishing on 2-19 from his 4 overs.

Brodie and Hunt took the new ball and soon had the visitors in trouble,as they just couldn’t deal with Brodie’s express pace and his fine figures of 3-13 from 3 overs could have been much more impressive.
Skipper Shannon was next in on the act and his figures of 2-11 were a good return as were those of off spinner Derbidge who also got 2 wickets.
Street had just passed the half century when Kinnear finished off his fine individual performance returning figures of 2-4 in his 1.2 overs.
Wellington await the winners of North Petherton and Taunton, one of whom will be the next opponents in this competition, in a home game scheduled for Tuesday 21 May.
