Yeovil 216-4 Wellington 178-7

Wellington can be very pleased with their all round performance at Yeovil last Sunday as they took on a strong home team and ended up just 38 runs short all told in this pre-season match against a side that the Red and Blacks First Team will host next month in their opening home game of 2019’s WEPL Somerset Division campaign.

Yeovil, who had pretty much their full 1st XI on show, opted to bat first and saw Ewens and Redwood add 25 first wicket runs before Will Derrick (2-34 in eight overs all told) induced Ewens to loop one up to Lewis Sparks at point and he was out caught.

Jack Beal looked good with the new ball for Wellington too.

Redwood with 53 and Chesterman with 42 added the bulk of the Yeovil runs, but Wellington stuck well to their task as Macaulay Campbell, Arron Campbell and Rob Moysey (who took the other two wickets to fall) all did good work in the middle overs.

Lewis Sparks bowled out for Wellington and at tea it was 216-4 in 40 overs for Yeovil.

Yeovil openers Murphy and Mitchell bowled sixteen overs straight up from the start of the Wellington innings and had Wellington at 32-2 at the end of this passage of play with one wicket each.

Aks Latifi with 33 played well and looked good as he hit the ball cleanly.

Jack Beal with 62 was the top scorer for Wellington as he played a really crisp knock and looked in fine form.

Rob Moysey with 23 and Lewis Sparks with 15no saw Wellington’s effort with the bat lasted the full 40 overs and for Yeovil Ford with 3-34 returned their best figures.

Pre-season games continue over the Easter weekend at Bradninch CC on Saturday 20th April and Lympsham and Belvedere CC on Sunday 21st April.
