Wellington 193-9 North Curry 193-8
A pre-season Wellington CC team travelled to North Curry CC, who will play in Divisions One and Three of the West Somerset League in 2019, and tied the opening game of the new season when Curry’s O.Gunstone was run out off the last ball of the game attempting the run that would have won the game for the home side.
Choosing to bat first Trevor Brooks with 10 was the main mover in getting Wellington to 29-3 before Arron Campbell and Luke Desave combined to add 95 for the fourth wicket with both playing well on a good quality pitch; Desave played a masterful knock of 72 with four sixes and Campbell was in good form with 38 with one six.
Ryan Adams with a knock of 29 with two sixes propelled the Red and Blacks towards 200 as new signing Sam Wooster enjoyed a debut knock of 13.
Wellington totalled 193-9 at tea in 40 overs with M.Golding taking a fine 5-10 in eight overs for Curry with Odey’s 3-44 in six overs backing him up.
For Curry Odey and Graydon added 83 opening wicket runs before Rob Moysey saw Odey was caught by Ryan Adams for 20 and this became two when A.Gunstone was stumped by the same combination.
Graydon with 87 played very well and was on course for a hundred when Luke Desave got one through his defence and with it Curry’s innings began to have issues at 164-7, but M.Golding with 37no saw that the game would go to the wire despite Desave’s two wicket haul and three for Neil Hendy; Curry drew level with one ball to go, but a run out off of this ball saw that the game ended perfectly balanced.
