U11s are Champions!!

Wellington’s youngest age group were crowned champions of the West Division ‘B’ in the Taunton and District Youth League following Sunday’s washout of the proposed fixture at near neighbours Fitzhead.

They finished with 25 points, 1 clear of Bishops Hull and 3 ahead of Wiveliscombe with a haul of 8 victories, 1 cancellation and only 1 defeat from their 10 matches.

Tom Knell, in his 1st season in charge of the squad, has worked hard in getting games for a large squad of players arranging friendlies to get game time for those who didn’t make the league team.

Tom Hopkins, captained the team well and along with several other squad players have already had experience of playing in the U13 team which will hopefully stand them in good stead for next season.

Many of the squad, are only in years 3,4 and 5 so will still be available for the team next year, so hopefully another successful season will lie ahead.

A good number of the squad attended district trials, but special mention must go to Thomas Gendall, who has made the U10 Somerset squad and is currently playing in games against other counties.

Thomas who is in year 4 at Wellington School, only took up cricket prior to this season and won’t be 9 until mid August.
