Wellington 2nd XI 108 South Petherton 111-7

Wellington 2nd XI are now some 75 points adrift of last weekend’s opponents in Division Four of the Somerset League as they fell to a tenth defeat of the season in a game that they really had to win.

On batting first Trevor Brooks and Rob Moysey both got started with knocks of 12 and 14 respectively, but a feature of the innings was that starts were made, but not taken on to the next level.

Mark Bray with 35 and Mark Saunders with 26 played well in the middle order, but fell victim to A.Young who returned the excellent figures of 4-11 in 4.3 overs to go with those of Ross who took 3-18 in nine overs with the new ball.

Wellington did start well with the ball as Will Derrick and Ian Hewson took the new ball and Ryan Adams as first change reduced the visitors to 35-5, but a sixth wicket stand of 67 between Balch who made 30 and White who made 27 virtually secured matters for Petherton and although Trevor Brooks removed them both in his one over of off spin Harris and Ross saw the ninth placed side over the line and to 33 points to Wellington second string’s 12.

The team plays their game in hand – at home to Huntspill and District – next Sunday (29th July) in a change to the scheduled action for that day after visiting Uphill Castle 2nd XI the previous day.
