Wellington U11 245 – 5 (16 overs) Fitzhead U11 250 – 2 (16 overs)

Wellington’s youngest age group, just came off 2nd best in a tight game, when Fitzhead were the visitors to WPF on Sunday morning.

Under sunny skies, the hosts had 1st use of a good track and skipper Thomas Hopkins and Atticus Adams, made steady progress against a tight visiting attack and had taken the score to 215 at the end of their 4 overs.

Jonah Richardson and Robin Hill were next in, and again made steady progress until Fitzhead took 2 wickets just before the half way stage, when the total was 217.

Matthias Richardson and Oliver Hutchings were the 3rd home pair to bat and had pushed on to 231,with last pair Tom Knell and Thomas Gendall coming to the wicket.

2 good overs looked to be setting a challenging target, but a wicket in each of the last 2 overs meant the visitors would need to reach 246 for victory.

The hosts’ youngsters bowled accurately throughout the innings, and were very unlucky with balls just not going to hand at vital moments.

Fitzhead stayed calm and accumulated runs and by the halfway point had reached 230.

Thomas Gendall gave Wellington hope with 2 wickets, but the visitors had just enough in hand, and were victorious by 5 runs.

Oliver with 8, Atticus and Thomas Gendall with 7 led the batting and Thomas Gendall also finished with 3 overs 2 maidens 2 wickets for 1 run, to top the day’s bowling.

Next week the boys will be looking to taste victory, when they travel to near neighbours Wiveliscombe.
