Wellington 216-4 Middlezoy 127

Wellington continue to push hard at the top end of the Premier Division of the Somerset League as a result of this comprehensive 89 run home win over Middlezoy last weekend.

A full haul of 35 points came the way of Arron Campbell’s men after he opted to bat first on winning the toss.

Wellington were 18-2 early on and this needed correcting and it did so as Robin Davies, making his first appearance of the season, made a stylish 51 as he and skipper Campbell made 84 in a third wicket stand of 106.

This momentum was continued by Mark Bray who hit a good 42no after his skipper had gone with the score on 165-4 as he and Aks Latifi got Wellington to 216 at tea with no further loss of wickets as Middlezoy struggled with the ball.

WIll Derrick and Thom Trott took the new ball for Wellington and were in business early on as ‘Zoy slipped to 55-5 with Derrick’s 3-25 in nine overs overall leading the way as only Purchase with 28, Peppard with 22 and Warren with 32 made any real impression with the bat for the visitors.

Macaulay Campbell aided the opening bowlers effort with 2-22 in seven overs of his tidy medium pace on debut for the side and with Ryan Adams joining him as first change and taking 1-36 in seven overs the job was been done well.

Arron Campbell joined the attack to deliver the spin option on the day and a good effort of 2-32 in eight overs helped to take his side to a fifth win in five so far this season.
