Wellington 248-7 Burnham-on-Sea 85
Wellington proudly sit atop of the Premier Division of the Somerset League following this thumping 163 run win over last season’s third placed team in Division Two as they bossed their away game at Burnham-on-Sea from start to finish.
Wellington were asked to take first knock on losing the toss and this presented no issues as Tom Chambers and Neil Hendy added 80 for the Red and Blacks opening wicket; this jolly stand was ended when Chambers was caught for 44.
Jack Beal, batting at number three, cracked a quickfire 15 to see three figures posted and on his departure skipper Arron Campbell joined Hendy and they added 71 for the third wicket as Hendy made a capital 54.
Campbell carried on through to 74 made in just 47 balls as he flayed the home attack who returned some poor figures with the ball as only Farnham with 2-38 in eight overs was anything like in form.
The 200 mark was reached and surpassed and some good play from Mark Bray who hit 29no in 19 balls took Wellington to 248-7 at tea.
If Burnham had hoped that their batting effort would be better than their effort with the ball it was not to be as Ian Hewson and Will Derrick reduced the home side to 7-3 as catches for Derrick himself, Jack Beal and Ben Evett behind the sticks all stuck.
House with 39no and Coles with 29 made some hay for short while, but when Coles was bowled by Ian Hewson the game was up as Neil Hendy with 2-11 and Arron Campbell with 3-14 in seven overs dismantled the lower order with a run out from the bowling of Ryan Adams ending the game.
