Wellington 3rd XI 167-8 Taunton Deane 4th XI 25-0

Wellington 3rd XI collected twenty points from their drawn game through weather with Taunton Deane 4th XI in Division Seven South of the Somerset League last weekend and are third with five to play with precisely 300 points for the season so far.

On a day when not one positive result was obtained in the division Wellington were put into bat and saw new sigining Tom Chambers and Simon Burrough put on a very healthy 84 run opening stand as they dominated matters making 37 and 35 respectively before Chambers was caught on the boundary and this set in train Wellington losing four wickets for fourteen runs to be 100-4 before skipper Des Campbell and Dave Luxton, making 31 and 21 respectively, got their side towards 150 with a fifth wicket stand of 46.

Another flutter of wickets took Wellington’s third string to 157-8 with only a few balls left, but good play from Tyler Fyfe and Ian White got their side to an eighth batting point and a final score of 167-8 at tea.

Batstone with 2-20 in eight overs was Deane’s best bowler.

Rain was beginning to fall during the tea break, but a start to the Deane innings was made on time and Damon and Crosland added 25 in ten overs with only one chance been offered before the rain became just too heavy to continue in and so the players left the field not to return.

Deane took one more point than Wellington.
