Wellington 2nd XI 258-4 Kilmington and Stourton 117

Wellington 2nd XI are in a very healthy third position in Division Four of the Somerset League after this overwhelming win over relegation threatened Kilmington and Stourton last weekend when a full game was played despite the torrents that Friday had brought with it.

To this end Wellington’s cover system was crucial in getting play on and Rob Moysey decided to bat first on winning the toss with the weather still likely to be a factor so that his side would have 45 overs to use whatever came to pass.

Early on it was K and S – having made the long journey from the Wiltshire border – who were on top as they had the Red and Blacks second string at 50-2, but then through an imperious third wicket stand of 121 between Mark Bray (87) and Aks Latifi (88) who both played well over the top and dominated proceedings throughout their time together at the crease with Latifi hitting five sixes.

After Bray had been dismissed Mark Saunders arrived at the crease and cracked 46 not out as Wellington surged past 200 and onwards as Jack Beal gave him good support in the latter overs to see that the score for K and S to win would be 259.

K and S launched into their reply with gusto after losing a wicket in the opening over as Wakeling with 68 played some powerful shots and looked quite capable of hitting more and at 103-2 you just never knew, but Jack Beal collected the wickets of Ross and Williams who had given sterling support to Wakeling as Mark Saunders took good catches to see them both off and then Rob Moysey and Tom Perry saw K and S fall from 113-3 to 117 all out as the skipper took 5-3 and Perry 2-6 as they dismantled the visitors with precision and accuracy as their last four players did not score a single run between them to see a full points package be secured by Wellington with nine points going back with K and S.
