Wellington Midweek XI 157-9 Sampford Peverell Midweek XI 111

Wellington Midweek XI started their series of social evening T20 games last Thursday evening with a visit from Devon League Division D side Sampford Peverell and the Red and Blacks carried off a 46 run win with the final wicket of the game falling off of the last ball of the game.

Jack Beal won the toss and elected to bat first and it was he and Ben Evett who opened up for Wellington and they added 38 brisk opening wicket runs before the skipper was bowled for 13.

Evett played some audacious shots in making 31 and with Rob Moysey making 48 and batting well with the lower order saw Wellington to 157-9 in their 20 overs with Bicknell with 4-42 and S.Gearey with 3-27 taking wickets for Peverell.

Evett and Blake with an opening stand of 45 for the visitors got them away to a good start despite Will Derrick bowling with pace and accuracy, but it was not going to last as Rob Moysey got to work with his leg spin taking 4-11 in four overs and Ollie Beale with one good wicket saw that Peverell were falling short of the required rate.

Wellington kept chipping away and in the end took the last wicket with the last ball of the innings and will visit Peverell in August for the return match and supper afterwards.
