Taunton St Andrews U13s 125 – 7 Wellington U13s 98 – 7
Wellington U13’s will rue a less than impressive morning in the field as the battle of the 100% teams went the way of Taunton St Andrews on Sunday morning in The Taunton and District Youth League.
Opting to bat 1st The ‘Saints’ worked the ball around without ever getting on top of Wellington’s opening bowlers captain Ben Wardell and Olly Hunt who between them kept the score to 42 for 1 as their allotted 4 overs a piece were used.
Callum Hendy and Ben White then bowled in tandem as the home side looked to accelerate, but the gift of 47 extras, in a total of 125 for 7, was always likely to be the Achilles heel, even given White’s 3 wickets and Hendy’s 2.
Wellington set about the total patiently with White and Alex Derbidge at the crease, but once the latter perished, quickly followed by Olly Hunt, the pressure was on.
Once White was caught, Hendy joined his skipper Wardell at the crease and 3 boundaries and a 6 put the visitors back in the game, but when Hendy perished stumped Wardell tried to tie the innings together, but ultimately finished 27 runs shy and the large extras total was the difference between 2 well matched teams.
Wellington will be able to put things right next week, when they play the return fixture.
