Wellington 3rd XI 127-9 Barrington 2nd XI 130-6

Wellington 3rd XI lost a low scoring contest at Wellington Playing Field on Sunday afternoon as they played their game in hand in Division Seven South of the Somerset League, but are still in a decent enough third placed spot and will move forward despite a second loss of the season.

Another toss was won and Wellington opted to bat first and to this end four wickets had been lost by the time that the score has reached the forties, but steady innings of 31 from skipper Des Campbell and 11 from Ben Evett saw the Red and Blacks score rise well, despite M.Brain taking 3-19 in eight good overs.

After these two knocks Richard Henwood with 15 and Tom Perry with 11no got Wellington to 127-9 at tea and it would see that Barrington would need just over three an over to win.

A run out that was was effected by Macaulay Campbell saw the back of Welch with the score on seven, but Jones with 41 and D.Brain with 22 made inroads into the required score before leg spin from both ends saw Ben Evett and Ollie Beale get amongst the wickets and reduce Barrington to five down with three figures still to be raised.

Despite this brief spike in the home side’s favour Barrington captain T.Pitman made 35no to carry his side home and to 34 points compared to Wellington’s 12.
