Wellington U13s 112-4 Taunton U13s 41-8

Wellington U13s dominated with both bat and ball as they kept their 100% record intact on Sunday morning at a sunny playing field in the Taunton and District Youth League.

It is a testament to the ground staff that any cricket was played at home this weekend after the deluge that struck the ground on Friday afternoon.

Asked to bat first Ben White and Alex Derbidge accumulated runs at a rate of 5 an over until a low bounce caught out Derbidge in the sixth over, a fate which befell captain Olly Hunt soon after which brought Callum Hendy to join White.

These two passed 60 at the half way stage where White passed the retiring score of 30 and James Weymouth, stepping up from the U11s, gave solid support to Hendy as they passed 100 and Hendy then reached the retiring score.

Runs dried up a little late on, but a score of 112 was always going to be a tough ask a task that was made more difficult when the visitors lost opener Bird to a run out in the first over.

Hendy added to the Taunton sides woes as he sent back the incoming batsman firstt ball and they were never in the hunt after.

The home skipper rotated the bowling and if it wasn’t for the 28 extras the final total of 41 for 8 would have been even less.

White returned figures of 3 for 3 from three overs to round off a very successful day for him personally and the team will look forward to their next game when they visit St Andrews on 4 June.
