Kilmington and Stourton 230-4dec v Wellington 2nd XI

Wellington 2nd XI made the long journey to the Wiltshire border last weekend to take on Kilmington and Stourton in Division Four of the Somerset League and too saw a dropped catch see an opposing player move on to a large score in a game that was, in the end, claimed by the weather and was abandoned as a draw.

At 1-1 with Mark Saunders having taken a catch off of Macaulay Campbell things were looking good for the Red and Blacks second string, but for the second week running the second wicket partnership of the opposing side scored heavily as 176 was added by Harding with 151no and Batty-Smith with 62.

That the former player was dropped on more than one occasion hampered Wellington and to this end they had to wait until late on in the K and S innings for further success as Charlie Burrough and Ryan Adams took three wickets between them.

The rain was always going to get in the way and it had the final say as K and S declared at 230-4 in 38.4 overs and so tea was taken, but the Wellington reply never started as the home side’s ground was awash for the remainder of the playing time as they claimed 22 points to Wellington’s 16.
