Wellington 2nd XI 233-4 South Petherton 236-1

Having lost all that was seemingly gained last weekend by Bagborough’s withdrawal from Division Four of the Somerset League it was a case of Wellington 2nd XI having to start all over again and they collected eleven points from a run fest at home to South Petherton last weekend when nearly 470 runs were scored for the loss of just five wickets all told.

An opening stand of 91 between Trevor Brooks (31) and Mark Salter set the tone for the run heavy day that was to unfold as Wellington cashed in on winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Kevin Crout took the score to nearly 150 with Salter who made a capital 73 in the end with Crout continuing to 43.

Ben Evett with a very good 54 completed a first Club half-century and with Mark Saunders and Luke Vernon seeing the side to tea 234 would be needed to win by South Petherton.

When it came to the turn of the visitors to bat they were shone losing just one wicket at 45 when Macaulay Campbell took a catch off of Will Derrick; from then on Acreman with 90no and A.Young with 92no were in command and proved to be unbreachable as they added 191 for the second wicket which bettered by 30 runs a 23 year old record against the Red and Blacks second string to see their side take 29 points home.
