Wellington 162-6 Minehead 97-9
Wellington surged into the WEPL region’s Second Group stage of the National Club T20 Competition with this fine 65 run win over fellow Somerset Division side Minehead in the third of three games that the Club staged last Sunday.
Choosing to bat first this time around Kayden Hine and Alex Sparks added 43 for the second wicket as Wellington got going well after losing a wicket with the score at 6; Hine was bowled for 13.
It was when Luke Desave joined Sparks with the score at 51-3 that Wellington truly laid down a marker with Sparks playing a great knock of 87 that contained four sixes as he was ably supported by his skipper who made 17.
Sparks was out with the score on 142-5 and through the efforts of Aks Latifi, Jack Beal and Ben Evett Wellington had totalled 162-6 at the end of their twenty over allocation.
Ian Hewson again did so well with the new ball as he took 2-20 and saw that Minehead never got the sort of start they needed to prosper, although Muggeridge with 26 and Sherring with 16 did briefly threaten.
Arron Campbell took 2-12 in four overs to make it a dozen victims for him over the weekend and there were also rewards for Will Derrick, Alex Sparks, Lewis Sparks and Jack Beal as Minehead slipped to 78-9 in 13 overs before their last pair of Taylor and Griffiths saw out time between them, but this could not stop it been anything other than a great day for Luke Desave’s side and they now wait for six other groups to play between next Sunday and 4th June to see who they will be grouped with in the next stage.
Many thanks go to all who helped lay the day on as it was a great social occasion as well with both visiting Clubs been well represented with supporters making their way to Wellington CC and really joining in with what was on offer.
Amanda Moysey, Ali Campbell, Sharon Frost and Andy Campbell saw that great hospitality was on offer all day long as they prepared and served food to the masses and ran a most effective bar operation too.
Des Campbell, Mike Beal and Andy Campbell did a fine job as they ensured that the ground was ready for play from an early hour and that all was ready for the day ahead and thanks go to Danielle Campbell who took on the scoring duties over the whole weekend and not just on the day.
