Wellington 188 Minehead 185

Wellington entertained fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Minehead last Saturday in a pre-season home friendly and the Red and Blacks secured a three run win in what was a good work out for both sets of players.

Minehead asked Wellington to bat first in what was a 45 overs per side match and steady progress was made as Arron Campbell crafted a good knock of 41 with Kayden Hine and Alex Sparks offering support with knocks of 16 and 11.

Campbell was fourth out at 93 hitting six fours and a six.

Wellington’s lower order added good, and as it proved to be in the end, vital runs as Chris Shapland with a positive 20, Neil Hendy with 13, Ian Hewson with 10 and Jack Beal with a fine 38 got their side to 188 all out with five balls unused.

The wickets to fall were all shared about through the Minehead attack.

Ian Hewson and Jake Nichol got an early wicket each as Minehead’s reply started hesitantly, but Muggeridge played the innings of the game as he made 81 and when he was sixth out with the score at 155 the Seasiders were in a good position, but Neil Hendy with 3-31 in nine overs and Jack Beal with 1-24 in seven overs saw off the middle order of Minehead and this exposed a tail that was dealt with by Chris Shapland who took 3-20 and saw that Minehead had lost by three runs with nearly ten overs left.
