Wellington Sunday XI 250-4 Lynton and Lynmouth Sunday XI 207-7

A most pleasant day out at the magnificent Valley of the Rocks ground was enjoyed by Wellington Sunday XI who closed out the Club’s 2016 season with this 43 run win in front of a good number of supporters and the breathtaking views that this ground offers as Lynton and Lynmouth, from the North Devon League Division Three, hosted on a decent autumn afternoon.

The track served up was in keeping with the scenery and on winning the toss Arron Campbell opted to bat and saw his side would have a good total to defend as Rob Moysey and Des Campbell added 119 first up with regular scoring shots that kept the scoreboard ticking over and sumptuous shots for boundaries – both fours and sixes – in making 65 and 46 respectively.

Mark Salter – with 45no – bonded the Red and Blacks innings with as solid a knock as you will ever see as and this allowed Jack Beal with 25 and Arron Campbell with 28 to play with power and aggression

Salter and Macaulay Campbell got Wellington to 250-4 at tea.

Tucker with 2-49 was Lynton’s best bowler.

Wellington found a breakthrough hard to come by as the home side dug in against decent opening spells of medium pace from Nick Crossing and Ollie Beale.

Rob Moysey turned on all his leg spin skills to bag a five wicket haul as he combined well with Mark Salter in his role as wicket keeper  he took 5-28 in eight overs.

He removed Payne for 30 and Napier for 17 before removing C.Constable, Patel and Jones in quick succession as 53-0 became 78-5.

Through N.Constable with 60 and Druce with 30 the home side added 102 for their sixth wicket as Lynton fought back with the bat, but David Derrick (2-57 in seven overs) saw that both were dismissed in the end as Nick Crossing and Ollie Beale held chances before Potter and Bingham with 15no each saw out time and the respective Clubs seasons in good style to leave Wellington as 43 run winners.

A team supper was enjoyed on the way back home and this rounded off a good day perfectly.

Although the end of the outdoor season has come the action does not stop as on Sunday 9th October the senior indoor team commences their winter season in the Somerset Cricket Board’s Indoor League Division A with a match against North Petherton from 6.00pm at Somerset CCC.
