Westlands 3rd XI 215-6dec Wellington 3rd XI 45
Wellington 3rd XI travelled to their Westlands counterparts in Division Eight South of the Somerset League last weekend understrength, but still put up a decent fight all things considered and collected eight points to maintain their second place in the Division.
Richard Henwood asked Westlands to bat first in this game played at West and Middle Chinnock CC and saw Ollie Beale and Tyler Fyfe take the new ball and get some good deliveries at the home side’s openers Bryant and Chesterman; their stand was worth 65 when Harry Barrett caught and bowled Chesterman for 43 good runs and Wellington’s third string doubled their wicket count with that of Bryant for 22 as Tyler Fyfe took a good catch on the run to give Barrett his second debut wicket.
Powerful hitting from Hird at number four for Westlands saw him make 51 and add 95 for the third wicket as Boucher with 31 played well too.
Richard Henwood was outstanding taking 2-36 in eight overs as he beat the bat often, just not getting the edge and Dave Luxton rolled back the years taking 1-62 in eight overs as the home side scored quickly due to the wet weather that was swirling around, but never truly arrived.
Kleinman with 32no added a last burst of run scoring for Westlands as they declared at 216-5 in 32 overs, so seeing that Wellington had ten overs to bat until tea.
In that time they lost two wickets to the impressive B.Kearvell who took 5-12 in seven overs all told and at the break Wellington were 18-2 with Dave Luxton and Ollie Beale at the crease.
Luxton had made 22 when he was out to the first ball after tea as he hit a square cut well, but found Bryant who caught the ball at the second attempt.
Ollie Beale and Ryan Henwood stood firm for a while with Beale making 10 and Henwood 7, but the end was nigh when Beale top edged to fine leg and Henwood was a victim of B.Kearvell.
Chesterman and Boucher joined the attack and took the last three Wellington wickets to fall as the Red and Blacks were dismissed in seventeen overs with David Derrick the unbeaten man when the end came.
A home Bank Holiday Monday date with divisional champions Trull 2nd XI is next up for the side.
