Wellington 3rd XI 288-4 Chard 3rd XI 76

Wellington 3rd XI are well placed in Division Eight South of the Somerset League and have a 39 point lead in second place after this 212 run win over bottom side Chard 3rd XI last weekend.

Everything went well for Richard Henwood as he won the toss and decided to bat first; he and Dave Luxton added 82 good opening wicket runs for Wellington as Luxton made 32 before been caught at point.

Henwood carried on to a fourth half-century in five games as Wellington strengthened their grip on the game with 51 to be out at 96-2.

This was the cue for Mark Saunders and Thom Trott to add 140 for the third wicket as they played well against a young Chard side who were never lacking in effort and application despite this been a hard season for them.

Saunders with 92no was the stand out effort of the Wellington innings and Trott’s 58 was a good show too.

Tom Brooks and Ben Evett scampered late runs to get Wellington to 288-4 at tea.

Chard’s innings just about got into the second half of the forty overs on offer as they both scored runs and lost wickets at some rate.

Charlie Burrough and Tom Perry reduced them to 18-5 as Perry claimed a six wicket bag with pace and movement in equal measure as this pairing were too hot to handle.

L.Young with 17 and Driscoll with 22 played well and energetically for Chard, but the game was up when Ryan Henwood and Ollie Beale claimed the last three wickets between themselves to hand their side a thumping win.

Wellington caught well as Dave Luxton’s three slip chances show and there were other good efforts from both Will Derrick and Tom Perry as the fielders backed up their bowlers all innings long.
