Wellington 3rd XI 196-7 North Petherton 2nd XI 101-8

Wellington 3rd XI dominated this Somerset League Division Seven Red game at North Petherton last weekend, but the rain got in the way as Richard Henwood’s side strived for victory; the loss of eight overs saw that Petherton’s second string had the chance to play for a draw and that is what they duly did.

Wellington’s third string were asked to bat on losing the toss, but this did not pose any issues as James Brackenbury cracked 75 glorious runs with five sixes as he and Richard Henwood added 78 first wicket runs.

Trevor Brooks with 25 saw that his side got past the three figure mark and on his departure Alex Dixon with 44 saw that Wellington’s total was rising nicely; there was a bit of a stutter in getting to 182-7, but Ollie Hunt and George Charles-Price saw that Wellington would close on 196-7 as they added 14 runs late on.

Once Petherton keeper Lewis had been bowled for 12 Wellington got their teeth into the home side’s line up with Ollie Hunt taking 3-9 in seven overs all told with Tyler Fyfe backing him up with 1-36 in six overs as both Richard Henwood and Trevor Brooks took fine efforts in the slips.

Only Jenkins with 30 really ever got going and when he was out, caught by Ryan Henwood, Wellington were in the ascendancy.

Cam Sentence and Connor Wickenden applied pressure and took wickets too and at 90-8 Wellington were nearly home, but a thundery shower doused the ground and eight overs were lost from the allocation available to Petherton and with it they had the same number to face when play resumed and Freeborn and Bassett ground out the draw for no further loss.
