Wellington U15 103-6 Taunton Deane U15 106-6
Wellington U15s came so close to a County Cup Final spot last Tuesday evening as Taunton Deane scraped home with one ball to spare in a low scoring game at The Playing Field.
Asked to bat first the hosts openers of Nathan Roberts and Jacob Hurry ticked along at 4 or 5 runs an over, until the 9th over when Hurry was run out for 11, and when Roberts joined him back in the ‘hut’ in the very next over for 24 a rebuilding exercise was needed.
Ben Wardell came and went so it was left to Callum Hendy and Olly Hunt to add the required runs and they had taken the score to 64 when in search or boundaries Hendy was stumped for 17.
Callum Kinnear joined the chase for runs, but was caught for 6 and a late flurry from Hun, who was bowled for 24 and Alex Derbidge who remained unbeaten on 10 took the total to 103 for 6 at the close.
Thomas and Williams-Pritchard set about the target for the visitors and looked in little trouble as they reached the halfway point on 60 without loss until the latter was run out for 20 and the fun began.
Wardell removed Baverstock for 3 and when Thomas had to retire on passing 50 only 11 runs were needed and 4 overs remaining.
The Taunton side then crept to 101 – 2 at the end of the 18th and up stepped Hunt to remove Stephens Campbell and Flitton for the addition of only 1 run, so the game entered the last over with 2 runs needed.
Following a run out and 3 dot balls off of Derbidge a boundary was struck off the penultimate ball to see the visitors sqeeze home.
