Wellington and District Sports Federation AGM 2016 – Formal Press Report
Steve Coles of Wellington Football Club is the new Chairman of the Wellington and District Sports Federation succeeding Roger Nunn who stepped down after five years in the role at their recent AGM for 2016 writes David Derrick.
Reflecting on his five years in the Chair Mr Nunn saw that the major input that Federation had made was in respect of securing and then directing the original Cade’s Farm housing development Section 106 monies to Wellington Playing Field Pavilion in 2012.
Providing signage that helped to enforce the dog by-law at Wellington Playing Field was another Federation driven project and this is still there now, over four years on.
Other aspects such as pushing forward sporting opportunity and direction in local schools had also been a positive development in this timeframe and a recent opening contribution to the Taunton Deane Borough Council Sports Pitch Strategy consultation was an example of a more recent contribution.
Mr Nunn was thanked for leading the Federation well and with passion in his time in the Chair.
Secretary David Derrick delivered an upbeat report that viewed 2016 as being a challenging year for the town’s sports clubs as central funding is liable to cuts and more emphasis will fall on the clubs themselves to fund more and more, but a joint commitment to share best practice, tips and knowledge would see that the gap could be bridged
There is strength in numbers and Federation has a large headcount of members when all is amalgamated and this combined strength can make for positive change and influence.
Treasurer Richard Fox reported a three figure loss for the period 1st January – 31st December 2015, but also that cash balances were acceptable and 201offered the chance for Federation to make some funds for itself through several exciting event plans.
All the Federation’s financial activities in 2015 had been examined and signed off by Derrick Hodgson in his role as Independent Auditor to Federation.
The election of Officers for 2016 saw Roger Nunn elected to the newly created post of Vice President with Steve Coles being unanimously elected as the new Chair.
The new Vice Chair is Julia Birchall-Mann whose sport of choice is Tae Kwon Do.
All other Officers were re-elected along with the creation of an External Representation Team that will represent Federation in areas such as discussions with Local Authorities, Statutory Bodies and legal matters.
The Federation will be holding its opening full meeting of 2016 on Wednesday 9th March at Wellington Bowling Club, Coram’s Lane, Wellington from 7.30pm
