Wembdon 104-2 Wellington 106-3
Wellington secured their status in Division A of the Somerset Cricket Board’s Indoor League for another season with this three wicket win over Wembdon last Sunday afternoon.
With Wembdon’s last game against Taunton St Andrews being first up on Sunday 13th December when the last round of games is played the loser will be playing in Division B in 2016 as they both have three points from four games played and Wellington are now on six from their four played and with a match with Bridgwater to come the Red and Blacks will have a say in the title.
Wembdon gambled on their senior players going in at the top and Bingham and Brockwell did well in getting to the retirement level of 25, but leaving their younger players to see out the last few overs was possibly a gamble that went wrong for although only two wickets were lost – Jack Beal taking two catches, one off his own bowling and one off of Alex Sparks – the latter overs of the Bridgwater based side’s innings were fairly low scoring.
The effort with the ball from Wellington was good as each of Ian Hewson, Jack Beal, Arron Campbell and Alex Sparks bowled effectively.
Wellington required 105 to win and although a wicket was lost early solid knocks from the middle order pairings did the trick and in the end Paul Short’s 21 was the effort with the bat that saw Wellington get into the last over needing six to win and although a wicket was lost in this crucial passage of play early Jack Beal and Ian Hewson did what was required and secured three big points for Wellington.
