Autumn Groundworks at WCC

Monday, September 12th, 2011

The first section of our autumn groundworks operation has been started today with scarifying been the main aspect undertaken as we look to develop our Courtland Road ground’s playing surface.

Using the techniques gleaned from the IoG course that we hosted on Sunday 11th September a team of Club members lead by Simon Rudd and Richard Henwood has embarked on a three day schedule of works to see that we have the best ever autumnal renovation we have had access to.

If you spare any time over the next couple of days then please contact Simon Rudd or Richard Henwood.

Sunday 22nd May – Evening Work on Square

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

With no rain forecast for a further two weeks we are looking for volunteers to assist with fertilizing and watering-in following the Sunday XI’s game v Uphill Castle.
Ideally we need 4-5 volunteers to help for approx 1 hour – there will be a free beer after the work is complete.
Please reply if you are able to assist as we need to ensure numbers are available otherwise the work will be cancelled until a further date.

Please reply to Simon Rudd.

Club Security – External

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

This applies to all players and relates to extra effort to secure the Club’s property and leases.
At the end of all matches sightscreens are taken down and the rope is brought in as normal.
From this year the covers need to be secured in position close to the benches at fine leg from the Football Club End and then roped off using spikes.

At the end of the last match of the weekend (see noticeboard for home matches, this could be a Saturday game, Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon game), the square needs to be roped off using the old boundary rope and spikes; in addition all white boundary stakes need to be collected and brought into the scorebox.

Club Security – Internal

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Club security is very important and here’s a quick reminder to ensure all areas of the Club are secure when you leave.
This applies to the Team Managers and Team Captains mostly, but all players should be looking to help out wherever possible.

In particular, please check:
Side door is locked
Door to changing rooms is locked on all three locks
Doors to patio are secured and in place via the rotating catches, both in the door (not done last week) and white plastic turns and locked via key
Blinds in kitchen are down and shut (not done twice last week)
Till left open and empty
All other windows shut
Any item left in view moved out of view where possible

The Long Hop Bar – Nearly There!

Friday, April 29th, 2011

We are very nearly ready to officially open The Long Hop Bar; our first ever Pavilion Bar and Clubhouse opens on Saturday 30th April after the Sunday XI’s Taunton and District Sunday League Division A match against Bridgwater CC.

This will be the culmination of all the hard work, effort, time and financial support given by members, associates and friends of the Club in the 2010-2011 close season.

There will be an evening buffet for invited guests from 8.00pm as we showcase our new facility.

Please come along and support the Sunday XI in their first match since having gained promotion in the Taunton and District Sunday League following their Division B runners up achievement in 2010 and then move on to being part of what is a very special moment in the history and development of the Club.

Wellington Playing Field – Dogs

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

A message from our Joint Facilities Project Manager Simon Rudd

To all WCC members,

As the season approaches, a quick reminder of the playing field bye law that requires dogs to be kept to tarmacked and paved areas only.
The committee continues to actively support this bye law, keeping our sports surfaces clean and safe for all.
I would ask you to make all members of your family aware of this restriction.

Kind Regards,
Simon
