Barrington 114-3 – Wellington 114-3

Wellington were involved in a exciting tie with Barrington last Sunday afternoon when the game finished exactly level on runs scored and wickets lost.

Barrington were given a steady start by T.Pitman and Coote who both made it to 25no in solid style.
John Paine and Thom Trott bowled well for Wellington at the top of the Red and Blacks time in the field and saw only 53 runs come from the first six overs – a respectable performance in the indoor style of the game.

They gave way to Adrian Lee and Marc Holloway who did an admirable job at a crucial time in Barrington’s innings as they were looking to up the run rate.
Lee took the first wicket as French lashed one to Thom Trott at mid-off and Wellington’s skipped held a fine catch.
John Paine did likewise to see the back of Wellman who batted in his very own style again, this gave Marc Holloway a wicket.
Last man A.Pitman was run out on the last ball of the innings and Wellington were face with 115 to win.

Thom Trott and Marc Holloway gave Wellington an excellent start with both players making it to retirement in good style. Trott laid onto the overpitched ball and drove it past the bowler well. Holloway glided and glanced the ball around the arena, both made 28no.

Alex Sparks – on indoor debut – impressed with a cool and composed 13 that took Wellington to within an ace of victory.
He combined well with John Paine who made a excellent 23 to see that Barrington had to work harder in the field than they might have they had to.
Paine was run out by a direct hit and had he stayed through Wellington would surely have won.
Nine were needed from the last over and a wide ball and three off the wall combined with two leg byes brought the scored level leaving Sparks to face the last ball of the match, he and Adrian Lee crossed, but a leg-before appeal was upheld and so the match was left tied with both teams taking eleven points for their efforts.

Wellington next play on Sunday 30th October when they take on Failand and Portbury at 3.20pm and Butterleigh at 4.30pm. The teams for these fixtures will be finalised in due course.
