Wellington Warriors 143-6 Taunton Tornadoes 123-5
Wellington Warriors – the Club’s Under 19s side – have given themselves a great chance of making the Somerset Cricket Board’s Under 19s T20 Blast Competition Finals Day on Sunday 21st August at Uphill Castle CC and Weston Super Mare CC by virtue of this win over second placed Taunton Tornadoes (Taunton CC) when Arron Campbell’s team won by 20 runs at home last Tuesday evening.
On winning the toss Campbell led from the front as he made it to the retiring mark of 50 and with Jack Samuel built a stand of 48 for the first wicket.
Middle order players assisted their captain to post a score of around one hundred whilst he was at the crease and latterly Tom Hawkings and Miles Cave took 23 runs from the last two overs and this was telling in the end.
Ben Winsey with 2-6 in two overs perhaps should have bowled more for the Tornadoes as he did well with his medium pace.
Tornadoes skipper Brad Lynch with a retired 52 played a fine knock, but Wellington did not let any of his colleagues prosper as Dom Drew slipped a maiden over in during his four over burst and Jack Beal claimed a wicket in his second over.
Sam Whitefield, Arron Campbell and Nick Crossing were in frugal form with the ball for Wellington as they did not let Taunton’s middle order prosper as the required rate rose and the overs left dwindled.
Matt Derben with 16no played a good late knock for Taunton, but they ran out of overs and were 20 short of Wellington’s total.
Wellington visit Minehead Pirates on Friday 5th August for the Group’s last game and by applying the same attitude as in this game should be able to look forward to a well deserved berth at Finals Day later this month.
