WCC Club Chairman’s XI 158-7 WCC Past Players Association XI 124-6
Under glorious blue skies the first ever full match undertaken by the Club’s Past Players Association was played against a Club Chairman’s XI last Thursday evening and it proved to be a great success all round with the Chairman’s side winning by 34 runs in this eighteen overs per side match.
The PPA side started well with two wickets in the first over, but Ollie Beale with a bright knock of 24 pulled things round for the Chairman’s side as Richard Short, Mark Salter, Thom Trott and Rob Moysey scored well in the middle innings.
Russell Jones and Zandre Swartz scored well late on as the Chairman’s side got to 158-7 at the end with wickets for Marc Holloway, Brad Rowlandson and Simon Greaves aiding the PPA’s effort with the ball.
Chris Rudd’s three outfield catches were worth watching.
Dave Jones with 20, Clive Jones with 21 made good runs for the PPA XI early on and this was continued by Rob Hunt with 19, Chris Rudd with 15no and Ashley Colman with 17no as the ‘Old Boys’ ended on 124-6 in 18 overs.
Chris Rudd was made ‘Man of the Match’ by Past Players Association President Keith Colman for his fielding and batting efforts.
Afterwards some quality social time was spent in the Long Hop Bar – a good way to conclude a most enjoyable event.
