SCL AGM 2012 – Points for Note

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011
  • In 2012 the 1st XI will have 2.75 hours per game to bowl their overs in; failure to do so will incur a fine of two points.
  • In 2012 the 1st XI will have to adhere to a fielding restriction as is used in the later rounds of the Baker Cup; basically at least four fielders plus bowler and wicket keeper to be inside a 30 yard circle for every delivery bowled. If this is not met then a no-ball is to be called.
  • The proposal for the 1st XI’s division to adopt any leg side delivery being called a wide was won, but not by the required 2/3 majority, so such calls will be made at the Umpire’s discretion.

Ernie Wells

Monday, November 21st, 2011

It is with much sadness that the passing of the former head groundsman of Wellington Playing Field Ernie Wells was announced today (Monday 21st November).

Ernie – known to many as ‘Bomber’ – started work for TDBC in 1975 and was head groundsman at WPF from 1984 until his retirement in 1993; he was an avid cricketer himself playing for both WCC, Pitminster CC and in Sussex and after his retirement was often seen at the ground on many a match day up until very recently.

He will be sadly missed.

Fixture Secretary Steve Symons is working towards completing the WCC Sunday and Midweek XI fixture lists for 2012; our Sunday League schedule is complete and is available on this website already.

Our Sunday Non League and Midweek schedule is well advanced and will be posted when Steve says to do so.

We also look forward to welcoming Somerset Dragons to our facilities in 2012; the Dragons are a branch of the SCCC Disabled squad and they will be playing at WCC on Sunday 3rd June (when the Sunday XI are playing at North Perrott) and on other dates as can be fitted in depending on our Club arrangements.
