Brixham 156-6 – Wellington Sunday XI 160-4

Paul Short opted to insert the visitors on winning the toss at home last Saturday, but saw Devon League ‘B’ side Brixham get away with a 49 run opening wicket stand between Fletcher (58) and Robinson (30) as they looked at home for some 15 overs.
Matt Daniel got the breakthrough when he yorked Robinson for 30 and then proceeded to bowl his ten overs for only 27 runs and was able to collect two more wickets as the Brixham innings stalled.
Richard Henwood’s four overs cost only nine runs and Thom Trott bowled a fine 10 overs spell on the reel as he looked like he was back to his very best.
He and Paul Short made sure that Brixham did not ever really prosper in the last ten overs of their innings as only 49 runs came – only Barron for the visitors with 21no made a real impression after the opening partnership had been broken.
Trott took 1-32 and Short 2-36.
Wellington’s fielding was of a good quality too as catches were held by Kevin Symons, Mark Salter, Matt Daniel, Rob Moysey and Thom Trott.

Brixham came at Wellington hard and their opening attack of Hyde and Eaves bowled fast and true, but Mark Salter and Matt Daniel survived and grew in confidence as the innings developed.
They had added 25 good runs when Daniel was bowled by Hyde (1-22).
Salter played a fine knock of 41 with six fours and he was closing in on a half-century when Brixham skipper Pugh trapped him LBW.
The same fate befell Alex Sparks, but not before he had made a good 31 and had added 73 second wicket runs with Salter.
Rob Moysey joined proceedings and reminded those who had played at Brixham at the end of last season of the century he had made then by cracking exactly 50no with 8 fours and a six.
He and Richard Henwood saw the Red and Blacks over the line and to a six wicket win.
