Wellington 126-4 – Creechcombe 110-3

Wellington completed the indoor league double over Creechcombe last Sunday afternoon and with it gave themselves a chance of a ending the 2005-2006 winter season as runners-up if they were to overhaul local rivals Sampford Arundel A in their last match of the league season next Sunday afternoon.

Wellington batted first and were dealt a blow when skipper Thom Trott was bowled by N.Holley, who was the most effective bowler for Creechcombe on the afternoon.
Stuart Currall worked the ball around the arena well and reached 25no and retirement in good style.

Marc Holloway grew in confidence as his innings developed and he played some nice straight drives to the back wall for four. Bob Trott played an effective innings of 13 that got Wellington towards full batting points and Currall and Holloway ensured this was the case and Wellington got to 126-4 in 12 overs.

Creechcombe – champions two years ago – did not lose wickets, but could not match the double figure required run rate that they needed and although N.Holley, Ash and Piper got into the twenties they did not have the acceleration needed to overhaul Wellington’s total.

Thom Trott and Marc Holloway kept things tight early on during Wellington’s time in the field and they laid the foundations for Bob Trott and Kevin Crout to join the attack and offer a dual spin option.Trott bowled delightfully for figures of 0-14 in 3 overs as his loop and flight were hard to pick and deal with.
Crout wheeled away and his left-arm round variety was useful on the day.

Creechcombe were out of the match by the time the opening bowlers returned to the attack and there were two run outs for Thom Trott in the last over of the match and this saw that Wellington claimed seventeen points to Creechcombe’s seven.

Next week (Sunday 19th March @ 3.30pm) sees Wellington’s last league match of this winter season and a win over Sampford Arundel A will give them a good final league placing before going into the Knockout Cup – traditionally Wellington’s strong suit.

In this Wellington have been drawn against Butterleigh at 3.30pm on Sunday 2nd April.
