Wellington 110-3 – Sampford Arundel A 112-2
Sunday, January 15th, 2006Wellington looked as though they had a testing total to offer local rivals Sampford Arundel A, but they made short shrift of it as they made it to 76-0 in 5 overs as Dave Kittow and Ian Oliver made hay.
The introduction into the attack of John Paine and Bob Trott pulled things back somewhat as Trott Snr bowled John Pyle as he tried to cut one that was too close to him to play this sort of shot and Thom Trott returned to claim Darren Burns’ wicket, but it was all too little too late for Wellington who earlier had made 110-3 in their 12 overs.
Stuart Currall and Thom Trott had got away well with 44 in 5 overs, but this became 52-3 soon after and it needed good efforts from Bob Trott (26no) and John Paine (22no) to get the Red and Blacks up and over the 100 mark – both batted well, but Sampford Arundel A’s sheer start to their innings rendered any hopes of a Wellington victory redundant.
Wellington took 5 points from this match and the season’s bright start of four wins and a tie in five matches seems a long time ago now.
