Wellington 145-5 – Failand and Portbury 126-5
Wellington recorded their first indoor win over Failand and Portbury since October 2001 when they posted a nineteen run win in their first game of the afternoon.
Wellington lost two wickets in the first three overs despite scoring at 10 runs an over, but Stuart Currall and Alex Sparks reacted to this situation in a great style for Wellington as they laid into the Failand and Portbury attack with some venom. Currall ran the ball around the arena in a calm and collected style as he made 59no – a top knock.
Sparks made a fine 40 with three excellent sixes that he merely chipped to the back wall with no real effort. He gained regular threes as well.
John Paine weighed in with a useful 12 as Wellington hit 145-5 in their 12 overs.Failand and Portbury had struggled in the field.
Needing 12 runs an over from the off put pressure on the Bristol based side and although Wellington did deliver too many wides for their liking the Red and Blacks were never in danger of losing.
John Paine removed Hudd with a late swinging delivery that slanted across him.
Adrian Lee accepted a chance off of the ceiling to remove Norris first ball and although Lippe finally got going in making 28, he had taken too long to find his feet so to speak.
Fear played the ball around in a good style for 16, but three run outs ensured that Wellington collected bonus points and although J.Batchelor ended up with 49no Failand and Portbury had been well beaten and Wellington took 19 points to their opposition’s nine.
